Liz Hurley has been out of the limelight for a while now, mostly due to the cruel ravages of age, and the willingness of teenage girls to get pregnant taking the spotlight away from the more mature celebrity dames. However she´s back in the news this week after it was revealed that she is being accused of mistreating her maid and grossly underpaying her. She is alleged to have paid the nanny as little as $2.50 an hour on some occasions, and forced her to work up to 20 hour shifts.
The story came to light after Liz fired the maid over an argument. The maid then discovered that it wasn´t legal to be paid $2.50 per hour, and was given the services of a community lawyer. Instead of fighting the suit, Liz and Arun (the guy she´s married to) apparently settled out of court for a five figure sum.
Community service lawyers aren´t renowned as being the sharpest legal eagles, so it´s a fair bet that the maid had a pretty solid case against Liz.
And to think all this time I thought that being pretty meant that you were a nice person. My illusions, they are shattered.
